With years of experience in rehab at Lake Tahoe, our team consists of highly-skilled Physical, Occupational and Speech therapists. They put the medical science behind your performance training or recovery from injury. Performance Lab & Analysis offers services that measure cardiovascular function with aerobic and anaerobic capacities, analyze your lower extremity and running mechanics, allow you to train on an anti-gravity treadmill at various weight bearing loads, and more. Laser therapy is also available to reduce pain and inflammation.
VO2 Max, $200 for 2 sessions
VO2 Max testing is geared toward clients who are interested in completing a cardio fitness assessment that measures peak oxygen consumption, calories burned at different heart rates, aerobic and anaerobic threshold, as well as target intensity zones. A VO2 test measures the amount of oxygen the body uses at different exertion levels while exercising on a bike or treadmill.
Wingate Test, $75
A Wingate Test is an anaerobic capacity assessment performed on our Excalibur Sport Lode Ergometer. The rider is instructed to pedal as fast as possible while the torque remains constant at a rate dependent on the rider’s body weight. Wingate testing is appropriate for individuals who are interested in finding out about their anaerobic power, cycling efficiency, and fatigue rate.
Resting Metabolic Rate, $100
Resting metabolic rate (RMR) testing is geared toward clients who wish to identify their unique target caloric zones in order to lose weight or support their caloric needs during training. The exercise physiologist and physical therapist will advise the client as to how many calories they will need to intake in order to stay in the weight maintenance zone or the weight loss zone based on their unique resting metabolic rate (RMR). The calculated RMR will also be used to estimate calories burned during exercise and during normal activities of daily living.
Running Video Analysis, $250 for 2 sessions
Gait analysis is the systematic study of human motion, using the eye and the brain of an observer, augmented by instrumentation for measuring body movements, body mechanics, and the activity of the muscles. This process is facilitated through the use of computer-interfaced video cameras to measure patient motion. Dartfish software is used to measure and analyze gait abnormalities. A running analysis performed by the PT is designed to assess the client running mechanics through video gait analysis. The PT will evaluate and assess foot mechanics on land and treadmill, discuss strategies to successfully modify running gait, and if needed recommend custom orthotics. The overall goal is to improve running mechanics.
Custom Footbeds, $250
Custom footbeds are orthopedic devices used to alter or modify function. They are designed to treat, adjust, and support various biomechanical foot disorders. Our custom made footbeds are designed with the appropriate mold orthotic utilizing Fastech foot support technology. There are various mold orthotics recommended for different types of shoes. The Fastech direct-mold pillow system ensures a custom fit for each foot. The functional core is comprised of a moldable thermoplastic layer that becomes flexible when heated to mold to any arch type. The base layer is made from a durable material that can withstand the consistent wear and tear that comes with everyday use. SmartCells Cushioning Technology is also available on all Fastech orthotics and insoles, providing you an ergonomically designed and one-of-a-kind solution for every step you take. SmartCells are placed in high-impact areas to act like springs that absorb impact and provide energy return, for the perfect combination of cushion and performance.
Functional Knee Test, $50
The Functional Knee Test (FKT) is one of the best dynamic movement tests to determine core and limb symmetry deficits/weaknesses. The FKT consists of several different exercises that effectively assess athletes looking to fine tune their strengths and pinpoint hidden weaknesses to improve their overall performance in any sport. After any lower extremity injury, our athletes perform this test as a tool to guide their recovery prior to their return to sport. An individualized exercise program may be provided if necessary to improve symmetry.
Bridge, $300 for 12 sessions
The Bridge Program is available to clients who want to continue a formalized training program upon completion of their rehabilitation. The exercise program will be created following return to sport protocols and it will be instructed by a certified trainer. The certified trainer will be consulted by both a physical therapist and physician, if needed.
Laser Therapy, $175 for 5 treatments | $300 for 11 treatments
Deep Tissue Laser Therapy is scientifically proven and FDA cleared to reduce pain and restore mobility. The LightForce class IV laser emits energy in the infrared spectrum deep into tissues where it can utilize your body’s own healing powers by stimulating additional cellular activity. Laser therapy generates a photochemical response in damaged tissue via photobiomodulation—a process that stimulates healing on a cellular level by enabling cells to more rapidly produce energy (ATP). Laser therapy treatments are safe, painless, and fast. Treatments generally take 8-15 minutes and patients typically see results after 3-5 treatment sessions. Despite fast treatment times, laser treatments initiate a healing process that continues to actively reduce inflammation for up to 24 hours after treatment. The class IV laser is effective in treating acute pain, chronic conditions, and post-op pain.
Alter-G, $200 for 10 sessions
The Alter-G is an anti-gravity treadmill where air enters into a chamber that the client is zipped into wearing neoprene shorts. The airtight seal calibrates the client’s exact body weight by a computer and weight can be removed by 1% increments. The Alter-G is geared toward patients who are seeking an opportunity to train at a higher level or through injury without pain, or rehab from surgery. The unweighting technology reduces the impact of walking or running, while your body goes through the normal healing process. The Alter-G is useful to clients who are looking for reduced impact training and conditioning or weight control and reduction. The Alter-G can be utilized for performance therapy by including over-speed training (8%-13% faster than fastest speed), interval training (30 second speed repeats/1 minute slow jog), and hill training (up to 15% incline). Athletes looking to increase their speed or recover from a hard training session have seen that training on the Alter-G has helped them achieve their overall fitness goals.
Bike Fitting, $250 for 2 sessions
Bike fitting is geared towards clients who road bike, mountain bike, or compete in triathlons. The biomechanical analysis and cycle fitting is catered to clients who are interested in assessing their posture, flexibility, range of motion, strength, and balance on their bike. The goal of a bike fit is to optimize body positioning to maximize performance based on the rider’s recreational or competitive goals and history of injury. Our Bike Fit is designed to increase pedaling efficiency and power, improve handling performance, decrease overuse injuries, decrease saddle soreness, and reduce/eliminate back, neck, and knee pain. The bike fitting process involves a musculoskeletal evaluation and a real-time biomechanical feedback analysis of the rider’s body position and performance via Dartfish computerized performance analysis systems.
Retail Physical Therapy, $100
Retail Physical Therapy is geared to allow access to a comprehensive physical therapy evaluation under direct access. You do not need a physician referral to be evaluated and treated by a physical therapist. However, if your condition requires more than 12 treatments or 45 days of treatment, then you will be referred to a physician. With this approach, you do not need to wait for insurance approval and can get started with physical therapy right away. You can expedite treatment when training and have access to coordinated care between your performance coach and physician, if needed. Retail Physical Therapy will provide an hour long, one-on-one session with a physical therapist focusing on your individual goals.
